Put supers on when you see dandelions. (Basically NOW as long as you have a good population). Add more as they fill up. As a beginner beekeeper I would suggest using queen excluders to keep the queen out of the honey supers - you don't want her to lay brood on frames you will want to extract from. Many beekeepers don't use them but you need a bit more experience to watch for the queen laying patterns.
